Yet another automaker, Kia Corporation of South Korea, is planning to drive its first global electric vehicle (EV) — the EV6 — into India by June this year.
Right now, Kia is tight-lipped about the pricing in India. The EV6 car carries a price tag of around $40,000-$50,000 in South Korea.

However, the EV6 could reach India via the completely-built unit (CBU) route that is likely to make the electric crossover more expensive. But this move will be a mega step in marking Kia’s arrival in India’s EV space.
The ever-increasing fuel prices have prompted Indian buyers to do a rethink on internal combustion engine (IC) cars and tilt towards EVs. And, Kia is hoping to grab this opportunity with the award-winning EV6.
The Kia EV6 electric vehicle has a slew of accolades to its credit. It won two 2022 Red Dot Awards, that is, the ‘Best of the Best’ title for its design. And, it also won an award in the ‘Innovative Products’ category.
These were achieved just after the EV was conferred the European Car of the Year for 2022. Kia also clinched the 2022 Red Dot Award for its ‘EV6 Unplugged Ground’ brand cultural space in Seongsu, Seoul.
Kia’s experience centre — where prospective buyers can experience the EV6 in the non-physical (imaginary) form — has won the ‘Best of the Best’ award in Red Dot’s ‘Interior Architecture and Interior Design’ category.
Regarding the interiors, the EV6 is equipped with a litany of creature comforts like the dual 12.3-inch panoramic connectivity displays, 14-speaker meridian premium audio w/ external amplifier & subwoofer, Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hotspot and Android Auto.
The Kia car also comes with steering-wheel-mounted audio, hands-free phone, cruise control buttons and drive mode select.
Additionally, the EV6 is equipped with a rear-view monitor with dynamic parking guidance, augmented reality head-up display and dual-zone automatic climate control w/ auto defog system.
No information about the India EV6 model is available but the global offering of the EV6 has a 58kWh battery pack.
It comes in two configurations, The first is a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model with a 170hp single motor and the other all-wheel-drive (AWD) car comes with a dual motor that produces 235hp.
Moreover, there is also a larger 77.4kWh battery pack that comes with a 229hp single motor in RWD and a 325hp dual motor in AWD.
Also, there is the top performance-focused GT with a dual motor AWD system producing 585hp and 740Nm.
Last year, the EV6 booked its name in the Guinness World Records, travelling 2,880 miles (4,635 km) with the shortest charging time across the US in an EV.
The Kia EV6 was plugged in for just over seven hours throughout the seven-day journey from New York City in East Coast to Los Angeles in West Coast.
It had then broken the previous record set by Tesla, by more than five and half hours, that is 12 hours and 48 minutes.
So, if these accolades and achievements are properly highlighted by Kia in the Indian market, it could see the EV6 on a long drive from June onwards.
