MG ZS electric SUV’s price starts at Rs 21.99 lakh

Morris Garages’ (MG’s) ZS electric vehicle (EV) SUV has just been rolled out in India and the price tag is somewhat steep — Rs 21.99 lakh (Rs 21,99,000) for the Excite, which is the entry-level variant.

The price goes up to Rs 25.88 lakh (Rs 25,88,000) (ex-showroom) for the MG ZS Exclusive electric vehicle, the top variant.

The new MG ZS EV comes with updates in features but some are cosmetic in nature that makes the EV similar to its petrol variant, the Astor SUV.

Currently, MG India, has opened bookings for the Exclusive variant only, while the Excite’s bookings are likely to begin from July.

This new version of the MG ZS EV has a bigger battery, which, in turn, increases the range of a single charge to a whopping 461 km.

The 2022 version of the MG ZS gets a 50.3kWh battery. The older 44.5kWh battery pack has been replaced with a 50.3kWh battery pack, which is larger.

The torque output is 176hp and 353Nm. This power output is higher compared to 143hp in the previous  model.

This current battery pack increases the range of the MG ZS EV to 461 km while the older battery pack offered a range of 419 km.

MG Motor recently rolled out the ‘MG Charge’, under which the auto giant will install 1,000 AC fast chargers at residential localities across the country.

MG said that the new ZS EV can do from 0 to 100 km per hour in 8.5 seconds.

So far as the exterior updates go, the facelifted ZS EV was unveiled by MG internationally in October last year. And, the India model is almost identical to the international variant.

There are similarities with the Astor model. The MG ZS EV comes with slimmer headlamps along with new LED daytime running lamp signatures as well as LED tail-lamps.

MG’s ZS EV also gets many touches that are specific to electric vehicles. This includes a fresh body-coloured section in the front compared to the traditional grille in the previous version.

The charging port is there in the same spot — that is, the grille area. And, it does not appear behind the MG logo but is cleverly hidden on the side.

The new front and rear bumpers come with sporty looks and there are also the new 17-inch alloy wheels, which are unique and give the car a smart look.

The new ZS electric vehicle comes in four exterior colours — Ferris White, Currant Red, Ashen Silver and Sable Black.

In the interior, the climate control buttons have also been updated and are now almost the same as the Astor. The new EV comes with a 360-degree camera.

The MG ZS EV has a new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, compared to the older 8-inch unit. A new 7-inch digital instrument cluster replaces the analogue dials.

MG has not provided the Astor’s dashboard-mounted robot assistant to the ZS EV.

Among other notable features of this highly-priced MG ZS EV are an updated i-Smart-connected car tech, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, digital Bluetooth key, six airbags and hill descent control.

So, with a Rs 21.99 lakh pricing, MG may have to opt for discounts or freebies for the ZS to attract buyers as and when competition hots up.
