Tata Motors unveils concept Curvv EV | SUV to hit road in 2024

Tata Motors has unveiled the all-new Tata Curvv EV Coupe concept and the new SUV is all set to hit the road in 2024.

With the Curvv SUV Concept, the auto major is moving to its generation 2 architecture. This new design and tech are set to give a further fillip to the adoption of EVs in India by Tata Motors.

The Tata Curvv concept is a tad longer than the Nexon EV and comes with a length of 4.3 metres while its wheelbase is nearly 50 mm longer.

A bigger wheelbase implies that the Curvv will come with a bigger battery pack. This is likely to deliver a driving range of a whopping 500 km or even higher. The Curvv EV Coupe is set to be positioned above the Nexon.

The auto major plans to bring out the EV of the Curvv first, and later there is a plan to launch the internal combustion engine (ICE) trims.

The Tata Curvv will slug it out with the likes of MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric in the Indian market. These SUVs would be in the over Rs 15 lakh (Rs 15,00,000) bracket.

While the facade is influenced by Tatas Impact 2.0 design, the Curvv is the most modern looking car from the Tatas so far. The rear also comes with a very next gen and a muscular look.

The pronounced haunches add more muscle to the already muscular design and the angular shoulder line gels well with the rear.

The front end of the Tata Curvv comes with a bold and chunky enclosed panel that’s surrounded by sleek daytime running lamps (DRLs).

You can see the same split LED headlights that are there in some other Tata models.

The cabin of the Curvv EV concept comes with a minimalist look. It contains standalone screens for infotainment and also has an instrument cluster.

According to Tata Motors, the new Curvv will be a “connected car” and come loaded with the latest tech.

Tata Motors’ passenger vehicles managing director (MD) Shailesh Chandra said the SUV segment in the country is rapidly splitting up into several sub-segments and there is a clear demand for the differentiated offerings.

“In generation 1 models, we delivered a certified range of over 250 km. In generation 2 products, this will scale up to 400-500 km, Chandra said.

The Tata Sierra EV concept was unveiled during early 2020 at the Delhi Auto Expo and will be rolled out as a premium offering by Tata Motors.

The Tata Nexon EV has been the country’s best-selling electric car, with 9,111 units sold between January and December 2021. The automaker plans to build on that range (Nexon) along with the Curvv EV Coupe.

Tata Motors is seeing an opportunity of selling affordable EVs in markets outside India — that is, those even beyond South East Asia.

The Tata company reported 353 per cent growth in EV sales in the last financial year (2021-22) compared to 2020-21.

So, Tata Motors — by unveiling the new concept — is set to travel a long distance with its range of EVs as the Curvv gears up to hit the road in 2024.
