India’s highest-selling electric vehicle (EV) — the Tata Nexon EV — has got a makeover and is coming with a larger battery of 40kWh, which means a higher range but the price of the new Max variant could be somewhat higher.
In a bid to accommodate the larger battery pack, the Nexon Max EV’s floor plan will be modified, which implies that the boot space will be lesser. Moreover, the motor may be a more powerful one, that is, 136PS.

Owing to the bigger battery, the Nexon EV Max will have a substantially higher range compared to the current version’s 312 km under ARAI tests.
There are experts who are of the opinion that the new range of the Nexon Max could be 400 km on a single charge (ARAI test). This is the official figure.
Under normal circumstances, the Max’s range could be around 325 km on a single charge. The older version of the Nexon could do around 220 km on a single charge.
The Tata Nexon EV Max may come with a more powerful charger to enable faster charging.
The Nexon EV Max is likely to have a more powerful 6.6kW AC charger compared to the 3.3kW one in the standard car. This 3.3kW charger takes approximately 10 hours to charge the battery.
Tata Motors may offer a more powerful charger as an option with the Max. This will help the larger battery in the long-range Nexon EV charge faster.
The Nexon EV Max may have selectable regen modes, paving the way for drivers to adjust the intensity of regenerative braking, which, in turn, improves range.
The Max, along with adjustable regenerative braking, will have auto-hold, electronic parking brake and drive modes among new additions.
The current Nexon EV standard also has variable regen. However, it is mild and non-adjustable.
The Max and the older version of the Nexon will have similar looks from the exterior.
The Nexon EV Max will have a new illuminated gear selector dial with a ‘Park’ mode. It will have a litany of comfort and convenience features like cruise control and ventilated seats.
Tata Motors could give an air purifier and auto-dimming mirrors to the Max Nexon. On the safety side, the Nexon EV Max may also get the Electronic Stability Program (ESP).
A glimpse of the cabin in the new teaser shows that it could basically be unchanged. Additionally, the Nexon may be offered with a Royal Blue paint shade.
The Nexon EV Max could cost around Rs 1 lakh (Rs 100,000) more than the standard range’s top variant in the previous Nexon.
The on road prices of the Nexon Max could be nearly Rs 18 lakh (Rs 1.8 million), which is a tad on the higher side.
But, along with the Max variant, Tata Motors will also continue with the older model in a bid to give its customers a wider choice.
So, if the Tata Nexon EV Max is priced over Rs 18 lakh, it could be a tad on the higher side and may prompt prospective buyers to wait for the actual pricing of the Max variant.
