Tata Altroz electric vehicle (EV) was recently seen on camera moving on the road — and if Tata Motors ultimately decides to launch it — what could the price be compared to the petrol variant, which starts from Rs 8 lakh (Rs 800,000) (diesel car starts from Rs 10 lakh or Rs 1 million)?
There is no information on its launch timeline yet but sources in the auto industry are of the opinion that the EV model of the Altroz could hit the roads in the very near future.

The electric premium hatchback concept from the Tata stable had made its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The EV variant of the car, spotted recently, was heavily camouflaged. So, it was difficult to get much idea about the design.
Compared to the internal combustion engine (ICE) version, the Altroz EV may come with a closed grille, front and rear bumpers that are differently styled, air dams with star pattern as well as fresh looking alloy wheels with blue highlights.
There is also the blacked-out section of the tailgate where the badge is slightly repositioned.
The Tata Altroz EV may see lighter upholstery along with a rotary gear selector. It may also come with Blue highlights inside the cabin. The lack of a mechanical gearbox could offer more space around the centre console.
Most features of the electric Altroz could be similar to the ICE variant. The top model of the EV could come with keyless entry along with push-button start-stop.
It may also comprise iRA-connected car tech, automatic climate control, automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers, along with leatherette upholstery. There will be no exhaust pipe at the rear.
It is set to also have a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch semi-digital instrument cluster.
No details are out on the powertrain but the EV version may come with Tata Motors’ latest Ziptron electric technology that will debut on the long-range Tata Nexon EV Max.
The Altroz EV’s battery could come with the 3.3kW charger of the current Nexon variant and may take over eight hours to charge. The EV could do around 220 km (136 miles) on a single charge.
According to Tata Motors, the Altroz EV is derived from its hatchback counterpart, the first vehicle that has been built on the futuristic and versatile ‘Agile Light Flexible Advanced’ (ALFA) architecture. It brings to life Tata Motors’ fresh approach to design.
It added that the Altroz EV’s advanced concept is capable of evolving into a range of modern, youthful and agile vehicles within a short development cycle.
The upcoming Altroz EV will carry a higher price tag compared to its petrol and diesel versions, and the price, according to industry insiders, could be a tad expensive at Rs 13 lakh (Rs 1.3 million).
The pricing of Tata Altroz EV could be ideal at Rs 12 lakh (Rs 1.2 million) onwards, and if priced at Rs 13 lakh (Rs 1.3 million), it could be on the steeper side slightly.
