Volkswagen’s ID. Aero sedan concept has been teased just before its June 27 roll out. It was known for quite some time that Volkswagen (VW) is planning to launch a fully-electric four-door sedan.
This concept was initially named Aero B through numerous teasers. Also, the concept car was to be showcased in China during April 2022 but due to the lockdowns there, owing to the Covid outbreak, the plan was postponed.
This time, however, Volkswagen has officially revealed its production name: The ID. Aero. The sedan is likely to be shown in the concept form initially during the month.
The German auto giant unveiled a teaser of the design study that will ultimately result in the production of a vehicle soon. The ID. Aero is VW’s first fully-electric sedan.
Aero concept’s teaser showcases a close but graceful form, almost sporting a sloped look down to the bumper.
There are hardly any lines and creases, and the tailgate-wide LED graphic catches one's attention immediately.
Talking about the ID. Aero GTX, VW former head of R&D had revealed in 2020 that it can do from 0 to 100 km per hour in just 5.6 seconds.
Volkswagen calls the ID. Aero as a car with “outstanding aerodynamics, elegant design as well as generous space.”
The teaser is just a concept, though during production, the actual car will differ, at least to some extent. During any teaser, car firms usually hide certain important details as these could help rivals gain crucial information.
The VW ID. Aero sedan is based on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix. This platform is being adopted to expand VW Wolfsburg’s electric vehicle line-up in the high-volume segment, which mainly caters to the middle class.
The ID. Aero comes with the same modular electric architecture that the carmaker has for the ID 4 crossover and ID Buzz van.The ID. Aero is 5 metres in length. This is nearly 5 inches longer than the Volkswagen Arteon.
This sedan is likely to be an evolution of Volkswagen’s ID. Vizzion concept that debuted in 2018. In that show, the car giant also showcased the ID. Space Vizzion electric wagon, which is set to go into production mode soon.
VW is tight-lipped about the technical details of the Aero. However, in the last announcement, VW claimed that the Aero Concept B can do 700 km (435 miles) on a single charge.
Volkswagen has said that the ID. Aero concept will be unveiled fully on June 27. The production version of the concept is likely to hit the road in China after July 2023.
The North American and European version of the ID. Aero may debut later in 2023 (after the China roll out). However, no timeline has been provided for this. The car will be produced at VW’s Emden (Germany) facility.
Volkswagen’s ID. Aero sedan concept, which was teased just before the June 27 launch, is set to gain a lot of attention from car buffs, considering its extremely smart and futuristic look.
