Citroen C3 Aircross mild hybrid, EV in India by 2024 | C3 petrol version launched starting Rs 5.7 lakh

Citroen has rolled out its C3 petrol version with a price of Rs 5.7 lakh (Rs 570,000) and the French company is also eyeing India’s hybrid car market and could bring in the next-generation C3 Aircross in its mild hybrid and electric forms.

The C3 Aircross, which could be a mini SUV like the C3 rolled out in India on July 20, 2022, may launch in 2024.

Citroen C3 mini SUV has been launched in India.

Citroen’s next-generation C3 Aircross is expected to come with mild hybrid and electric powertrain variants.

The new C3 Aircross could be a tad longer than the current model, that is around 4,300 mm in length. The next-gen Aircross is set to be based on the CMP or the e-CMP platform.

It is possible that the C3 Aircross could have a refurbished 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and mild-hybrid tech.

So far as styling goes, the new Citroen Aircross may come with a sturdy look, along with a split headlamp set up.

It is likely that there will be an all-electric version. The e-C3 Aircross could come with a single electric motor, belting out 134 BHP. Maybe, a 99 BHP variant could also be on offer.

The 134 BHP version could be propelled by a 50 kWh battery that would give a maximum range of 345 km on a single charge.

The current Citroen C3 has safety features, which can be termed as basic. It comes with dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, speed-sensitive auto door lock and seatbelt alarm for the driver and passenger as well as ABS.

There are, however, no adjustable headrests in the front and rear. Also missing are ISOFIX child-seat anchors, side airbags and a reverse parking camera.

The next-gen Citroen C3 Aircross could be developed for the Indian and Latin American markets, though the company is yet to confirm this.

Citroen rolls out C3 in six variants

Meanwhile, Citroen has unveiled the pricing of the C3 in India, and the mass market passenger vehicle, which would come in six variants, will carry a price tag starting Rs 5.7 lakh (Rs 5,70,500).

An SUV-inspired hatchback, the C3 has a very smart and futuristic look and comes with V-shaped LED daytime running lights and headlamps, which are positioned a tad lower.

The C3 is derived from Citroen’s CMP modular platform. The car offers a dual-tone exterior and black plastic cladding all over.

This gives it a kind of a rugged look. The Citroen C3 is also equipped with diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The car’s wheelbase is around 2,540 mm, ground clearance is 180 mm (which is adequate for Indian roads) and it has 315 litres of boot space, which is commendable.

The new Citroen C3 is 3,981 mm long, 1,733 mm wide and 1,586 mm high. This mini SUV will compete with the likes of Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite and Maruti Suzuki Ignis.

The interiors are somewhat unconventional. The dual-tone dashboard is offered with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity along with a digital instrument cluster.

The Citroen C3 offers two engine options. The first is a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that belts out 81 BHP @ 5,750 rpm and 115 Nm @ 3,750 rpm. It comes paired with a five-speed manual.

Then, there is the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol motor, belting out 108 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 190 Nm @ 1,750 rpm. It is mated with a six-speed manual transmission.

Citroen C3 will come in six variants and be priced around:

Live: Rs 5.7 lakh (Rs 5,70,500)

Feel: Rs 6.62 lakh (Rs 6,62,500)

Feel Vibe Pack: Rs 6.77 lakh (Rs 6,77,500)

Feel Dual Tone: Rs 6.77 lakh (Rs 6,77,500)

Feel Dual Tone Vibe Pack: Rs 6.92 lakh (Rs 6,92,500)

1.2L Turbo Feel Dual Tone Vibe Pack: Rs 8.05 lakh (Rs 8,05,500)

The C3’s deliveries will start from May 20 itself at 20 La Maison Citroen phygital showrooms across 19 cities in the country.

Citroen is planning to extend its 100 per cent direct online buying initiative for the C3, the company said.

So, with the C3, Citroen’s foray into the Indian mass car market, with a price starting at Rs 5.7 lakh, is a prudent move and this could pave the way for a robust roll out of the mild hybrid and electric C3 Aircross in 2024.
