Volvo Cars is set to roll out the XC40 Recharge SUV, its first electric vehicle (EV) in India, on July 26, while LML Electric would soon unveil its electric hyperbike along with two other two-wheelers.
The XC40 electric variant was scheduled for launch last year but Covid delayed Volvo’s plan.

Volvo Cars had recently showcased the XC40 Recharge, which is the electric variant of the XC40 SUV, in India earlier this year.
The Recharge version is set to be assembled locally in the country, indicating that Volvo could price it smartly.
In fact, Volvo could open bookings for the XC40 Recharge SUV later this month and deliveries may start from October, the beginning of the festive season in India.
Propelled by a 78kWh battery pack, the Volvo XC40 Recharge can do 420 km on a single charge (WLTP standard), which is commendable. It belts out 408 hp maximum power and 660 Nm of peak torque.
The electric XC40 is compatible with 150 kw DC fast charging units that can recharge the SUV from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in only 33 minutes.
The XC40 Recharge will slug it out in the market with the likes of Kia EV6 and the Volvo version that is being assembled in India would be almost the same as the global EV.
So far as the interiors are concerned, the XC40 Recharge will be available with a 12.3-inch driver’s fully-digital screen as well as a new 9.0-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment system. This system has been developed in coordination with Google.
Some of the features of the Volvo SUV are wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control and a 360-degree camera, among others.
In a bid to show that it cares for the environment, Volvo will have leather-free upholstery for the XC40 EV.
LML to roll out hyperbike, electric bike
LML Electric is gearing up to launch three new two-wheelers in the Indian market as early as September. The roll outs would initially include the electric hyperbike, electric bike and an electric scooter.
LML is set to form a joint venture (JV) company with Germany’s electric hyperbike maker eROCKIT AG.

The JV between LML Electric and eROCKIT AG will pave the way for mass production of electric hyperbikes in India.
eROCKIT AG manufactures a unique pedal-powered electric motorcycle. The hyperbike is propelled by pedalling and comes with a top speed of a whopping 90 km per hour!
It is supported by an advanced battery as well as an electric direct drive motor.
The clutch-free direct drive of the eROCKIT adapts well to the pedal control. Deliveries of the E-Bike and E-Hyperbike will start from March 2023 while the electric scooter will roll out from September next year.
LML claims that its models will have some unique features, which are yet to be seen in any EV two-wheeler globally.
Conclusion
Volvo Cars roll out of the XC40 Recharge SUV could see some good response if it prices its EV competitively compared to the Kia EV6, among others, and LML may see many takers for its electric hyperbike.
