Ola Electric has just revealed yet another S1 series e-scooter, the S1 Air, which comes cheap, but the range is not commendable enough, and it seems that the company is targeting the segment that is using public transport for daily travel or those using petrol scooters.
This Ola S1 Air is cheaper than the current S1 and S1 Pro (price of the Air is similar to petrol scooters) but the range is less than the previous two Ola models.
The Ola S1 Air will come for around Rs 80,000. |
From an app-cab company, Ola entered the electric-two-wheeler space in a bid to end the dominance of big players like Bajaj Auto, Hero, Honda Motorcycles, Yamaha and TVS that produce models like Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter and Yamaha Faschino.
Ola scooters have been on the higher side in terms of pricing despite operational costs remaining low. However, the S1 Air launch could be a game-changing move by Ola Electric, especially for mass-market buyers.
With a price tag of around Rs 80,000, Ola could find many takers for the S1 Air, especially those who want to upgrade to an e-scooter.
Comparatively, the S1 and S1 Pro are priced in the range of Rs 100,000-Rs 140,000 (Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.4 lakh).
According to Ola Electric, the S1 Air scooter can cover 100 km on a single charge under the Eco mode. This range is ideal for city riding or travelling small distances in towns or in rural areas.
The Ola S1 Air comes with a 2.47 KWh battery pack, which is smaller and less powerful than the one inside the S1 Pro.
It takes around four and half hours to charge the Ola S1 Air’s battery fully. A 4.5 kW motor propels the Ola S1 Air scooter.
The Ola S1 Air comes with a top speed of 90 km and this is much less than the previous two models that have a top speed of 115 km.
The S1 Air can do from 0 to 40 km an hour in just 4.3 seconds. However, this is less compared to the S1 Pro, which does it in around 3 seconds. The weight of the S1 Air is 99 kg and it is lighter compared to the S1 and S1 Pro.
Ola Electric offers a telescopic front fork in the Air as well as twin rear shock absorbers and drum brakes are there on both the wheels. These features make the Air an attractive option for scooter buyers.
Similar to the S1 Pro, the S1 Air is offered with a seven-inch TFT display. The Air also comes with proximity alert, hill-hold function and a reverse button that enhance safety.
Also, the newly-rolled-out Move OS will come as a standard feature in the Air scooter. Compared to the S1 Pro (which has a space of 36 litres), the Air will have a cargo space of 34 litres.
However, there is a flat-floor bed, which will pave the way for keeping more items compared to the S1 and S1 Pro.
If Ola Electric can get rid of the battery fires and produce safer two-wheeler batteries, and if performance is commendable despite its cheap price, many petrol scooter owners may flock for the S1 Air.
