The Hyundai Nexo 2022 is all set to make a foray into India
but the price tag seems to be steep for it to gain acceptance in a big way and
also, the fuel type of the car is yet to get a boost in almost all countries
globally.
According to Hyundai, even among its cars, the 2022 Nexo is
unique in many ways, and among them are the design and fuel type.

Similar to the Toyota Mirai, the Nexo would be a hydrogen-powered car having no gasoline (petrol) engine or hybrid drivetrain.
The Hyundai Nexo would come with a commendable driving range
of up to 480 km (380 miles), but its acceleration is slower compared to many
electric vehicles (EVs).
The Nexo’s dependence on hydrogen fuelling stations would only
see big sales in markets where this fuel is accessible. This fuel is currently
available in California, where the sales potential of the Nexo would be
immense.
The Hyundai Nexo may be an expensive car by Indian
standards, but it has some amazing safety features.
The Nexo is for those who
want a stylish as well as a powerful car. It also comes with an impressive fuel
efficiency and commendable driving dynamics. This car is likely to be rolled
out around March 2023.
Hyundai Nexo is bundled with a litany of features that make
it a great choice for families. It has some astounding convenience features
like heated seats to automatic door locks and its slim design will add comfort
to your driving experience.
The engine powers the front wheels through a single-speed
transmission. However, an all-wheel drive is not available.
The Nexo’s 95-kW fuel-cell stack and 40-kWh battery come
with a 161-hp, 291-lb-ft-torque electric motor. This Hyundai car can do from 0
to 96 km (60 miles) in eight seconds, and this is faster than the Toyota Mirai.
The Hyundai car’s electrically-assisted steering is tuned
appropriately, and moreover, it is light despite having muscle.
The Nexo is capable of screeching to a halt from 112 km (70
miles) per hour in just 50 metres, which is a leg up compared to the Mirai.
The range of the Nexo depends on the trim, with the base
model, Nexo Blue, offering a range of 610 km (380 miles).
The bigger Limited variant has a lower range of 570 km (354
miles) because of its additional equipment and 19-inch wheels (against the
Blue’s 17 inch). The Nexo is offered with three years of free hydrogen fuel.
So far as the interiors and cargo are concerned, the 2022
Hyundai Nexo has adequate space inside, where adults can sit very comfortably,
both in the front and rear seats.
The cargo capacity behind the back seat is commendable at 30
cubic feet. If the rear seats can be folded, almost 60 cubic feet is available,
which is comparable to the Tucson.
This hydrogen car comes with a two-spoke steering wheel, digital
instrument panel, and push-button gearbox controls. Upholstery in the front
seats is vinyl that has just minimum power adjustments.
Hyundai’s Blue Link app paves the way for boosting
connectivity like remote engine starting with seat preheating or precooling and
even provides info on the nearest hydrogen fuel station.
Blue Link comes free for a three-year period. There are two
USB charging connections. But only one of them is available for data transfer.
There is also a wireless smartphone charging pad.
The Nexo has a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment screen
that can be operated by either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
E-Vroooom’s view
Probably carrying a price tag of Rs 65 lakh (Rs 65,00,000),
the Hyundai Nexo hydrogen car will only see good sales in India if there is a
boost to the charging infra for hydrogen fuel, and moreover, it seems that the
price needs to come down substantially for the car to compete with electric
vehicles.
