Tata Motors has rolled out an upgraded Tigor electric car, which is priced higher at Rs 12.49 lakh (Rs 12,49,000)-Rs 13.75 lakh (Rs 13,75,000), and offers a higher range, but will this propel the electric vehicle’s (EV’s) sales as it has not been doing too well (like the Nexon EV) in the Indian market?
This new version of the Tigor comes with a litany of new features and two new variants are also on offer. The most notable change in the new Tigor is the range of 351 km — but it is just 9 km more than the previous version.

And, it comes with a four-star safety rating, as per GNPAC. Tata Motors has also added more features on the new Tigor EV, just like the Tata Nexon Max as well as the Nexon Prime versions.
Among key add-ons is the multi-mode regen function that has the feature of automatic brake lamp activation.
This helps switch the brake lights during regeneration. Similar to the Nexon EV Prime and Max, the new Tigor electric car comes with a four-level regenbraking.
Here, Level 0 cuts off regeneration and Level 3 happens to be the strongest level. With the help of this, the batteries can be recharged on the move, particularly at a traffic junction or while going downhill, therefore, giving a boost to the effective driving range.
Some other notable features on the new version of the Tigor EV include an indirect tyre pressure monitoring system through the smartphone app, cruise control and smartwatch-integrated connectivity features.
Tata Motors had earlier offered new software features and updates without any charge and it is doing the same now with existing Tigor EV consumers.
The new Tata Tigor EV comes with new variants as well as a slew of equipment. The Tigor EV XT replaces the XM where Tata Motors offers additional features such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen as well as steering-mounted controls.
The XT variant is priced at Rs 12.99 lakh (Rs 12,99,000). On the other hand, the Tigor EV XZ+ is offered with cruise control, auto headlamps and rain-sensing wipers. This variant carries a price tag of Rs 13.49 lakh (Rs 13,49,000).
A fresh top-spec XZ+ Lux variant is also up for grabs. It is offered with a contrast black roof, leather-wrapped steering wheel as well as a leatherette upholstery and is priced at Rs 13.75 lakh (Rs 13,75,000).
It also has Tata Motor’s advanced Ziptron high-voltage architecture that comes with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, belting out 75hp and 170Nm.
And moreover, the new Tigor EV gets the same powertrain that was introduced last year. The refreshed Tigor EV is capable of doing from 0 to 60 km (37 miles) per hour in just 5.7 seconds, according to the automaker.
The Tigor EV’s battery pack is a 26kWh lithium-ion one and it reaches a charge of 80 per cent in just an hour. Tata Motors provides an eight-year or 1,60,000 km (1.6 lakh km) warranty on the battery and motor of the new Tigor EV.
Prices of the new Tata Tigor are up by around Rs 1 lakh (Rs 100,000) from the older version, and considering the slew of offerings, the new variant could propel the electric car’s sales to a new high.
