Hyderabad-based electric two-wheeler brand Pure Electric has unveiled its new electric motorcycle, the ecoDryft, which may see good response, given its style and smart pricing, while the BMW CE 04 e-scooter would be the best electric scooter in India but the price may be high.
BMW CE 04 scooter
The two-wheeler unit of Bavarian manufacturer BMW had released a teaser image of the CE 04 electric scooter recently.
It has also vowed to showcase the electric vehicle (EV) for the first time in the country during the music and driving festival.
It is quite possible that the CE 04 electric scooter could roll out in the Indian market in the coming months.
The premium electric scooter is being showcased at the BMW Joytown. Seeing the response it gets from the people, the company may accordingly move forward with its plans (India launch of the CE 04).
In case BMW Motorrad rolls out the electric scooter in India, it would become the most expensive e-scooter in the country.
The styling gives the scooter an unusual futuristic look. And, the specs are awesome.
The CE 04 comes equipped with a permanent magnet liquid-cooled synchronous motor that offers a whopping 42 hp of power at 4,900 rpm.
This is the most amazing figures for any e-scooter in India. The CE 04's electric motor belts out 62 Nm of torque at just 1,500 rpm.
For comparison, the recently-launched Ultraviolette F77 electric motorcycle, which rolled out a few weeks ago, has a maximum power output of 40.5 hp in the top-end Limited Edition variant.
The BMW scooter has an electronically-limited top speed of 121 km per hour (75 miles per hour). It can accelerate from 0 to 50 km per hour in just 2.6 seconds, which is surely the CE 04’s USP.
The BMW scooter has a range adequate only for city riding, that is, 129 km (80 miles) on a single charge, as per WMTC test cycle.
Packed with the CE 04 are a host of features. They are LED headlights, a 10.25-inch TFT display, three ride modes (Eco, Rain and Road), BMW Motorrad connectivity, keyless ride, automatic stability control, electronic reverse and ventilated storage compartment with USB-C charging point, among other features.
The BMW CE 04 offers 15-inch wheels on both ends, and braking is from the 265 mm dual discs upfront as well as the 265 mm single rear disc with BMW Motorrad ABS.
But the e-scooter may be priced around Rs 9 lakh (Rs 900,000), which is actually pretty steep.
Pure Elecric ecoDryft prices to be announced in January
According to Pure Electric, this e-motorcycle has been placed in the daily commuter segment and has been completely developed as well as made in India.
Last year, Pure Electric rolled out the ETryst 350 electric motorcycle with a price tag of Rs 1.55 lakh (Rs 155,000) (ex-showroom), which has been placed in the premium segment.
Price of the e-bike may be announced in January 2023 and we expect it to be around Rs 1 lakh (Rs 100,000).
The ecoDryft wears a simplistic look, unlike most electric motorcycles which have a fancy and futuristic style.
It comes with an angular headlamp, which has around it a minimalistic cowl, a stubby tail section as well as a rounded fuel tank.
The ecoDryft will come in four colour trims — black, grey, blue and red.
According to Pure EV, the 3kWh AIS-certified battery pack offers a range of 135 km, which is commendable. The electric bike can reach a top speed of 75 km (46 km) per hour.
Just before the ecoDryft’s roll out and start of bookings, Pure EV will ensure adequate inventory, and this, could bring down the waiting period, according to the electric bike maker.
Also, the electric vehicle brand has a litany of dealerships — its current reach is 100 cities across the country and it is eyeing a further growth in major cities.
E-Vroooom’s views
BMW’s CE 04, which would be the best electric scooter in India, and Pure Electric’s ecoDryft, if smartly priced, may see a good response from India’s urban youth but it seems that the BMW e-scooter price is substantially high for it to make a dent in the Indian scooter market.
