Judicious pricing could spur sales of Fujiyama’s five e-scooters in rural India

India’s electric vehicle (EV) start-up Fujiyama has launched five new electric scooters and aims to cater to the lower end of the segment, and with its judicious pricing, it could become a popular option among the masses, especially in rural areas.

But for Fujiyama to gain ground in rural India, it will have to find ways and means to boost EV infrastructure in the hinterland.

Fujiyama has launched four low-speed electric
scooters and one high-speed e-scooter.

Fujiyama’s five e-scooters

It has come up with four scooters that are in the low-speed category and there is one model in the high-speed segment.

The low-speed models are — Spectra Pro, Spectra, Vespar, and Thunder — while the high-speed e-scooter is dubbed the Ozone+.

Electric scooters’ range and pricing

And, all these scooters have a range of between 90 km and 140 km. This should have been a tad higher, that is, around 150 km.

The e-scooters are affordable, that is, they have a price range of Rs 49,999 to Rs 99,999, which would be one of Fujiyama’s USPs in the price-sensitive Indian market.

Fujiyama e-scooters’ battery pack

Fujiyama’s Spectra is in the low-speed category and has a 250W BLDC motor mated with a 1.56kWh Li-ion battery pack. This powertrain comes with a range of up to 90 km on a single charge.

Next is the Fujiyama Spectra Pro, also a low-speed electric scooter, that comes with similar features and range. But it has a smaller 1.34kWh battery pack.

Other low-speed e-scooters, charging

The Fujiyama Vespar is also a low-speed electric scooter that comes with technology that is almost alike and bundled in a design, which is a mix of retro as well as modern.

Last in the low-speed category is the Fujiyama Thunder e-scooter, which gets the same drivetrain packaged in a body shell that can be dubbed as “more-striking.”

All the e-scooters are offered with a detachable battery pack and are capable of being charged within 4-5 hours through a home charger. All the electric scooters also have LCD display and LED lighting.

No need for licence

For the low-speed electric scooters, there is no requirement for registration or licence to ride these electric two-wheelers.

Fujiyama Ozone+ high-speed e-scooter

Besides the low-speed two-wheelers, Fujiyama has also rolled out the Ozone+ high-speed e-scooter.

The Ozone+ also has the Fujiyama Vespar’s retro-themed design and additionally comes with a more powerful 1.6kW motor.

This motor has 60V/42AH (Li-ion battery), and during its maximum efficiency, it can belt out 3.7kW of power. The Ozone+ model comprises disc brakes on the front as well as the rear portions.

This Fujiyama model’s high-speed electric scooter comes with features such as LCD display, LED lighting and Bluetooth connectivity, among other connected features.

Fujiyama future plans

The company also plans to launch a new electric bike priced at Rs 99,999 very soon. This could be a giant positive step.

Fujiyama claims to have a over 140 dealership network and aims to grow to 500+ locations in FY24.

The company is also planning to establish three new production units in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh by 2025, scaling up the capacity to 60,00,000 units annually.

E-Vroooom’s views

With judicious pricing in the highly-competitive e-scooter market in the country, Fujiyama can see its sales surge not only in price-sensitive India’s rural market but demand can even come from urban customers.
