With Ocean Extreme EV launch, Fisker Inc to go slow in India

American electric vehicle (EV) brand Fisker Inc. will be rolling out its cars in India but will go slow starting with just the Ocean Extreme EV, and in the initial stages, the company will be making 100 cars for the Indian electric vehicle market.

While announcing the launch, Henrik Fisker, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO), Fisker Inc., said, “India has a lot to offer in the EV space. We have started deliveries in the US and Europe and are excited to bring the Ocean EV to India. We have charted a plan to grow rapidly in the near-to-mid term.”

Fisker had opened its India office in Hyderabad last year. It will now be rolling out the Fisker Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition in India. This edition takes the name of its Indian subsidiary Fisker Vigyan India Pvt. Ltd.

Fisker to launch Ocean Extreme EV in India
Initially, the top variant of the Fisker Ocean will
be available in India for Rs 1 crore (Rs 10 million).

Fisker Ocean Extreme delivery schedule

The Ocean Extreme is Fisker’s first SUV. The American EV maker has said that it will initially get this Ocean Extreme version to India, which is the top variant in the Ocean series.

While bringing in electric cars to India, Fisker plans to start deliveries from the fourth quarter of this calendar year itself, that is from October 2023.

Fisker Ocean Extreme battery

So far as the specs of this variant go, the Fisker Ocean Extreme is offered with a 113kWh battery pack (106 kWh usable). The battery propels the dual-electric motors, which belt out 564bhp with boost mode engaged.

Ocean EV acceleration, range, price

The Ocean EV can do from 0 to 96 km (almost 60 miles) per hour in 3.7 seconds flat!

Something that makes the Ocean Extreme EV stand out among other major electric vehicle brands is that it has a WLTP-certified range of 707 km (claimed) on 20-inch wheels.

This is a feat that no other electric vehicle has achieved in Europe.

The Fisker Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition will come for euro 68,950, about Rs 69 lakh or Rs 6.9 million, and this price is similar to the European variant.

In India, after taking import duties into consideration, the on-road price would be around Rs 1 crore (Rs 10 million).

And, early localization could give Fisker some cost advantages, which could give a fillip to sales of the Ocean Extreme EV and other Fisker cars.

Fisker Pear City EV

Fisker is also planning to get the Fisker Pear City EV into India but it is unlikely to come before 2026.

E-Vroooom’s views

The Pear City electric could be priced in the range of Rs 20 lakh (Rs 2 million) and would be the ideal candidate for Fisker to take on Tesla in India.

But with the Ocean EV launch, if Fisker Inc. goes slow in India and takes time to roll out its EVs, it would actually lose out to Tesla, which recently said it is considering a factory in India.
