Now, Lamborghini, the iconic Italian supercar maker, has decided to do away with pure-petrol cars, go fully electric and also build hybrids, and this is the way forward, considering the stringent laws that the West — Europe and the US — is chalking out to sound the death knell for internal combustion engine (ICE) cars.
As per a newspaper report, Lamborghini chief executive officer (CEO) Stephan Winkelmann said that the car maker has finished selling its remaining fully petrol-powered vehicles and this has cleared the path for the company to manufacture hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs) only.

Lamborghini’s launch plans
Lamborghini will start with plug-in hybrid versions of its iconic V12 and V10 supercars and even that of its popular Urus SUV.
Assurance of cutting-edge performance
Even as it targets to reduce the carbon footprint with its latest move, Lamborghini is set to offer cutting-edge performance with its new set of vehicles.
The company has shown its commitment towards environmental sustainability and will manufacture its first all-electric car later this decade.
Many are of the opinion that becoming an electric vehicle maker may compromise Lamborghini’s cutting-edge performance but the CEO has given his assurance that the transformation will only give a boost to the people’s driving experience.
Supercar Revuelto hybrid
The upcoming Revuelto supercar will be Lamborghini’s first plug-in hybrid. This car depicts Lamborghini’s dedication to seamlessly blend power with sustainability, said Winkelmann.
With the deadly combination of a V12 engine, the Revuelto will be offered with three electric motors, and a compact battery.
It will belt out over 1,000 horsepower of power and can touch a whopping 62 miles per hour (almost 100 km/hour) in only 2.5 seconds.
Revuelto sold out
According to sources, car buffs are keenly awaiting the Lamborghini Revuelto’s roll out. In fact, it has received such an overwhelming response during bookings that the Revuelto is completely sold out till 2025.
The Revuelto could overtake the success of the Aventador, which sold 11,465 units in its 11-year production run, believes the CEO. The US market is keenly awaiting the Revuelto launch, where the vehicle could witness unprecedented demand.
Besides interest in the Revuelto, Winkelmann revealed that demand for Lamborghini’s conventional ICE cars, such as the Urus and Huracan, had been robust.
Lamborghini’s investment, sales
The company had last year stated that it is infusing an amount of $2 billion towards its hybrid car portfolio and plans to roll out plug-in hybrid replacements for its ICE models in 2024 and 2025 itself.
Lamborghini has achieved unprecedented sales in India last year with a figure of 92 units, a growth of 33 per cent over the previous year.
E-Vroooom’s views
Lamborghini has taken this step of going fully electric and hybrid because if Europe, the US and others in the West roll out stringent laws on pollution, it may prompt buyers to shy away from ICE cars, and this could lead to dwindling sales, and hence, losses for the Italian car giant.
