Honda’s upcoming Prologue EV in US may touch 300 miles on single charge

Well, Honda has claimed that the upcoming 2024 Prologue electric vehicle (EV) in the US may get an EPA-estimated 300 miles (483 km) of range on a single charge.

Also, this first all-electric SUV from Honda’s stable will come with a litany of specs.

Honda Prologue EV vs Chevy Blazer EV

The Prologue EV is built on General Motor’s (GM’s) Ultium platform, and the range is achieved via an 85kWh battery pack, which has the same size as the one in the Chevrolet Blazer EV.

These two electric vehicles are similar on many fronts such as having a 121.8-inch wheelbase as well as an 11-inch driver instrument display.

But the official EPA range of Chevy’s SUV is a tad less at 279 miles (449 km) on a single full charge.

Both the Prologue and the Blazer EVs are offered with Google built-in software.

However, Honda’s EV comes with the wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto support. But these are not found in GM’s electric vehicles.

Honda charging package options and credit offers

Honda will offer a slew of charging package options for the Prologue (and the Acura ZDX as well). These include public charging credits.

One package offers an 11.5kW home-charging station with a $500 Honda Home Electrification installation service along with $100 in public charging credit.

This credit works specifically for EVgo and its roaming partners such as ChargePoint.

Honda’s EVgo pact paves the way for customers to find chargers, look for real-time stall availability, and begin a charge, all via the new HondaLink app.

There is a second charging package option, and this is a slower (but portable) 7.6kW charger, a $250 install credit along with a $300 public charging credit.

Finally, the third option avoids using the Level 2 home charging offerings (If you already have one or stay in an apartment) and gives you $750 in public charging credits instead.

Despite your package of preference, new Honda and Acura EV owners will also be offered a free sampling of DC fast charging at Electrify America stations, which will be up to 60kWh.

That offer could cater to a free one-way road trip from New York City to Niagara Falls.

However, you must note that you won’t be able to take advantage of Electrify America’s fastest 350kW charging options.

This is because the Prologue only supports up to 155kW. Honda claims that you can get a range of 65 miles (105 km) in just 10 minutes of fast charging.

First delivery of Prologue EVs

Honda says it will deliver the first Prologue EVs in the early part of 2024, and it will begin with those in the over $40,000 price band.

It may even qualify for the $7,500 federal tax incentive, given that the Chevy Blazer is a part of the list.

Toyota, Honda slow in EV race

Just like Toyota, Honda is a slow starter in its electrification drive, considering the journey of other automakers.

Therefore, as a stopgap, it has built the Prologue on GM’s platform.

The Prologue is Honda’s first EV in the US market since the Japanese auto giant’s compliance 2015 Honda Fit EV model.

Honda’s next EV model, to be available in 2025, will be a larger SUV and come out from the company’s own e-Architecture platform.

E-Vroooom’s views

Prices of the Honda Prologue are expected to be around $50,000, but considering this price and a range of only 300 miles on a single charge, it may not be a great bargain unless some amazing features are provided with it.
