Mercedes-Benz has just showcased the Vision Maybach 6 electric coupe concept in India that is longer than the Merc S-Class and this could be an indication of the future electric cars coming to the country from the Mercedes’ stable.
The German luxury car was showcased for the first time in its concept form internationally in 2016.
The Maybach 6 EV, if it goes into production stage, could be priced around Rs 4 crore (Rs 40 million) in India. |
And, it’s the first time that this luxury electric vehicle (EV) was unveiled in India.
Maybach 6 longer than Merc S-Class
The Maybach 6 EV is unimaginably long for a sedan. In fact, it is lengthier than the flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class by nearly 410 mm.
The Vision Mercedes Maybach 6’s design somewhat walks us down memory lane — it is borrowed from the 1930s Maybach Aero Coupe.
Maybach 6 retro touch in design
In fact, the Maybach 6 EV is a perfect blend of a retro appeal, via its elongated hood, and tapered boat-tail at the rear along with the modern design elements embedded in it.
Also, it is offered with a Maybach-specific mega chrome grille, a Maybach badge and ultra slim headlights. It has snazzy candy red 24-inch wheels, and comes along with gullwing doors.
The 2+2-seater electric coupe happens to be the first electric vehicle, even as a concept, to come with the Maybach badging.
Maybach 6 electric’s power, acceleration, distance covered, top speed
The Maybach 6 electric concept comprises four electric motors, one on each wheel. The motors belt out a mind blowing 750 PS of total power.
The electric coupe can rev up from 0 to 100 km (62 miles) an hour in just four seconds, which is surprising considering its huge size. This also gives us an inkling about the luxury car’s massive power.
The coupe gets its power from an 80kWh battery pack, which can cover a range of 500 km (310 miles) on a single charge. This is commendable.
The Maybach 6 electric’s top speed is estimated to be around 250 km (155 miles) per hour.
Why Maybach 6 EV was showcased in India
What Mercedes may be wanting to do with this India debut of the Maybach 6 EV is to tell its customers what car models from its electric lineup they can expect from the German luxury car maker in the years ahead.
With a concept such as the Maybach 6 electric, Mercedes could be hinting at a launch of the Maybach EQS SUV, which is the first all-electric car from the Maybach brand. It is priced around Rs 3.5 crore (Rs 35 million).
Maybach performance in India
The Maybach sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz has performed surprisingly well in India so far. In fact, both the S-Class sedan and GLS SUV have seen many flocking for them in the country.
The Maybach 6 EV, whenever it translates from concept to production stage, could be priced over Rs 4 crore (Rs 40 million) in India.
E-Vroooom’s views
Showcasing the Maybach 6 electric coupe indicates that Mercedes-Benz will bring to India its luxury liners as it has seen its high-end models selling very well in the country and expects this market to rev up further.
