In November or December 2023, compact SUV Tata Punch may be rolled out in its electric vehicle (EV) avatar but will the pricing and features keep prospective buyers away from choosing the electric car?
Tata Punch electric most budget-friendly EV
Tata Motors has just released the Nexon EV Facelift this month and will now be rolling out its compact SUV, which has been seen on the road undergoing tests on several occasions.
The Tata Punch EV could see some changes in design. |
Tata Motors had earlier announced its plans to introduce four new electric vehicles by early next year, and the Punch EV could be the most awaited among them.
If the Tatas get it right, the Punch EV has the potential to become the most budget-friendly electric SUV in India.
Tata Punch EV design changes
The Tata Punch EV could be somewhat different from its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. The Punch EV may come with a redesigned front, and a closed grille.
This new design form would be in line with the latest design philosophy adopted by Tata Motors. It is similar to the recent facelifts seen in the Harrier and Safari SUVs.
The expected alterations in the Punch EV may possibly be a similar vertically-stacked headlight unit equipped with an LED projector arrangement.
Moreover, it is being felt that a new set of alloy wheels could be introduced.
Tata Motors may also bring in its pioneering
two-spoke steering wheel with a digital logo. This steering wheel was initially
showcased in the new Nexon.
Tata Punch EV | What to expect in price, mileage, charging, features
If at all the Tata Punch EV is launched, here is what you can expect in terms of price, mileage, speed, features, and charging details:
Price: The price of the Tata Punch EV will hinge on factors such as battery capacity, features, and local incentives.
Electric vehicles generally come with a higher upfront cost compared to their gasoline / petrol counterparts. But lower operating cost and government incentives can offset this.
It is estimated that the Punch EV may cost anywhere between Rs 10.5 lakh (Rs 1.05 million) and Rs 13 lakh (Rs 1.3 million).
Mileage: Electric vehicles are known for their efficiency, and the Tata Punch EV may offer a commendable range on a single charge.
The range can vary depending on the battery capacity, but it would surely be designed to meet the needs of daily commuting in the city. Expected range could be around 300 km (186.4 miles) on a single charge.
Speed: The Tata Punch EV is set to offer competitive acceleration but top speed could be the same as the ICE model. Electric motors offer instant torque, which can boost acceleration.
Features: Tata Motors may equip the Punch EV with modern features, such as a touchscreen infotainment system, advanced safety features, and even smart connectivity options.
Charging: The Tata Punch EV will support various charging options. You can probably fast charge up to 80 per cent in about an hour and full charging may take around six-eight hours.

The Tata Punch EV, if launched in November-December 2023, may have some commendable features and if the price is kept within Rs 10.5 lakh (Rs 1.05 million), it would be a judicious move by Tata Motors.
