In a groundbreaking move, Honda Motor, one of Japan’s leading automakers, revealed its strategic leap into the electric vehicle (EV) space with its Honda 0 Series, starting 2026, gearing up to compete fiercely in the global battery-powered cars’ market.
Need for a catch up in EV space
Despite being a name to reckon with in the automotive industry, Honda has been falling behind European and US counterparts like General Motors and Volkswagen in the EV space.
Even competition from players like China’s BYD has been adding pressure, prompting Honda to accelerate its foray into the EV market.
Honda’s CES trade show unveiling
Honda chose the coveted CES trade show in Las Vegas as a venue for unveiling its ‘Honda 0 Series.’
Along with this announcement, the Japanese auto giant showcased two concept models that offer a glimpse into its ambitious plans.
The goal is ambitious but crystal clear: By 2040, Honda targets to make its entire range of cars battery-powered and fuel-cell vehicles.
Honda’s North America focus
The first models of the Honda 0 Series will hit the road globally by 2026, with an initial focus on the North American market.
Specific details like pricing and the number of models planned are yet to be disclosed. However, Honda is poised to make a significant impact in the ever-growing electric vehicle space.
Honda’s future projections
Honda’s current electric vehicle sales globally are abysmal right now, at less than 0.5 per cent of the total global EV sales. In numbers, there are around 11,000 vehicles, with a majority sold in China.
However, the company is eyeing a mega transition — targeting 2 million EVs annually by 2030.
Moreover, Honda plans to roll out 30 distinct battery-powered models by the same year, indicating a firm commitment to a sustainable automotive future.
Global expansion and Canada prospects
In another move reflecting Honda’s global growth ambitions, Canadian officials are in talks with Honda representatives for a gigantic investment — worth $14 billion for an EV plant in Canada.
This plan was revealed by Honda chief executive officer (CEO) Toshihiro Mibe and this fuelled anticipation for a major manufacturing presence in Canada.
Honda concept models and design transformation
Among the showcased concept models at the CES, the ‘Saloon’ grabbed eyeballs.
It is a sedan designed in a way so that four-five passengers can sit comfortably.
While certain design aspects may undergo upgrade, there was enough hint that the showcased concept aligns very closely with the vehicle’s actual production version.
Another interesting EV revealed was the ‘Space-Hub,’ a van-like vehicle that can seat six-seven passengers.
This also indicates Honda’s commitment to diverse EV offerings.
Honda’s logo revamped
Honda has showcased a revamped logo for its refreshed EV series. The redesigned logo is more tilted and sleeker, indicating the company’s march into a futuristic segment like electric vehicles.

The unveiling of the ‘Honda 0 Series’ by 2026 and the accompanying ambitious goals underscore the company’s determination to secure a prominent position in the electric vehicles space globally and its bold steps pave the way to shape the future of sustainable mobility.
