Rolls-Royce Spectre, India’s costliest EV, is a lucrative buy for the affluent

Rolls-Royce has officially unveiled its first-ever all-electric vehicle (EV), the Spectre, in the domestic market and this car is India’s most-expensive EV to date that could be a lucrative buy for the country’s affluent.

Priced at a breathtaking Rs 7.5 crore (Rs 75 million), prior to additional options, it would definitely find room for attractive sales as the country’s super luxury car buyers have lately shown an interest towards the high-end segment.

An example of this is Mercedes-Benz, which saw a huge jump in the sales of its premium trims during 2023.

RR Spectre battery, range, charge

The Spectre comes with a powerful 102kWh battery pack, and can travel 530 km on a single charge, as per the WLTP cycle. This is a tad disappointing, considering that it is India’s most-expensive EV.

The Spectre can be charged up to 80 per cent in just 34 minutes via a 195kW charger, but with a 50kW DC charger, it will take around 95 minutes.

RR Spectre power, acceleration

Under the hood, the Spectre is propelled by two electric motors, one on each axle, belting out a combined output of 585hp and a massive 900Nm of torque.

The hefty Spectre, weighing a whopping 2,890 kg, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km per hour in just 4.5 seconds, demonstrating the impressive power packed into this top-notch EV.

Built on aluminum spaceframe architecture

Rolls-Royce has made the Spectre on its all-aluminum spaceframe architecture, which is considered the ‘Architecture of Luxury’.

This platform underpins key Rolls-Royce models such as the Phantom, Ghost and Cullinan and was originally designed with electrification in mind back in 2003.

Spectre has enhanced driving experience

The Spectre will be offered with active suspension and four-wheel steering for an enhanced driving experience. The company has claimed that the Spectre is 30 per cent stiffer than any previous Rolls-Royce cars.

RR Spectre’s design

So far as the design goes, the Spectre maintains the iconic Rolls-Royce silhouette with a long bonnet and a fastback tail, taking inspiration from modern yacht concepts.

It is 5,475 mm in length and 2,017 mm in width and has a front grille — the widest-ever fitted to a Rolls-Royce —designed for aerodynamic efficiency.

It is complemented by a set of aero-optimised 23-inch wheels, which are the largest ever fitted to a two-door Rolls-Royce coupe.

RR Spectre interiors

Inside the Spectre, the opulence is palpable with a starlight liner incorporated into the door pads, along with the roof.

The dashboard panel on the passenger area is lit with the ‘Spectre’ nameplate and surrounded by nearly 5,500 star-like illuminations.

The interior is an example of Rolls-Royce’s commitment to customisation, offering customers a litany of options for wood panelling, stitching, embroidery, and intricate piping.

RR new software platform

A notable feature is the roll out of Rolls-Royce’s new software platform ‘Spirit’. The Spirit has control of all functions of the car and paves the way for connected car technology.

Rolls-Royce also offers bespoke services with the Spirit software. Its customisation is down to the colour of the dials to complement the interior.

E-Vroooom’s views

The Spectre aims to redefine the luxury electric vehicle segment in India and even though it is the costliest EV in the country, it could perform well as affluent car buffs are now seeing the top-end segment of luxury cars as lucrative buys, even though range anxiety may be an issue in this case.
