Punch.ev, which has been launched, is the first electric vehicle on Tata Motors’ pure EV architecture and it has been judiciously priced, with adequate features and also a futuristic look.
This is a dedicated platform that can change the entire floor and be designed around the battery.

Punch.ev interiors
The Punch.ev is digitally boosted by smart lighting systems. Inside the cabin, the EV comes with a 26 cm high-definition infotainment by HARMAN display along with a 26 cm digital cockpit.
An illuminated logo at the centre of the two-spoke steering wheel gives it a futuristic look.
There are also wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay accompanied with a gadget-like experience of the Arcade.ev. This is an app centre with 17 apps for gaming, music and media.
The Punch EV also has connectivity with a slew of voice assistants, including the Native ‘Hey Tata’ assistant with over 200 commands in six languages. There is Alexa, Siri for Apple users and Google Assistant for Android users.
The connected car experience gets a fillip with the ZConnect Connected Car Technology along with smartwatch connectivity, which is standard.
Punch.ev long-range’s features
Moreover, the Punch.ev Long Range (LR) comes with the option of a 3.3kW and a 7.2 kW AC fast charger, which can be installed at home or office. Having DC fast charging capability, it can fast charge from 10 to 80 per cent in less than an hour from any 50 kW DC fast charger.
Punch.ev’s safety, slew of features
With six airbags, electronic stability program, ISOFIX, roll-over mitigation, brake disc wiping and hydraulic fading compensation coming as standard, safety in the Punch EV is one of the highest among all Indian cars.
There is also a 360 surround-view camera system with a blind spot monitor in the Punch.ev’s high-end trims.
Punch.ev range, price
Punch.ev has a range of 315-420 km, which is commendable compared to the price on offer. The electric SUV’s price bracket is Rs 10.99-14.49 lakh (Rs 1.09 million to Rs 1.5 million), and at these price points, the driving range offered is quite good.
The customers being targeted by the company are the youths with an age of 35 years or less.
Passenger vehicle sales
Last year, India’s passenger vehicle (PV) industry’s total sales rose by 7-8 per cent. In this, EVs grew by a whopping 100 per cent and CNG by an impressive 25 per cent.
Punch.ev battery pack details
The Punch EV will be available at all Tata Motors showrooms selling EVs and Tata.ev stores throughout India.
Considering different customer use cases in mind, the Punch EV is available in two battery pack options, 25 kWh, offering an MIDC range of 315 km, and a 35 kWh one, that comes with an MIDC range of 421 km.
These battery packs are complemented with two e-Drive options, a 60kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous AC Motor, belting out 114 Nm along with a 90kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous AC Motor, producing 190 Nm of torque.
This results in 0 to 100 km/hour in just 9.5 seconds and offers an electronically-limited top speed of 140 km/h.
The battery pack and motor of the Punch.ev are IP 67-rated so far as protection from dust and water goes. The battery has a warranty of eight years or 160,000 km, whichever earlier.
Diesel vs EVs vs petrol vs CNG vs gasoline
Tata Motors sees diesel vehicles going away when the next emission norms are rolled out.
The automaker has 15 per cent sales from diesel variants, 20 per cent from CNG, and for electric vehicles, they are around 15 per cent. The remaining is petrol.
Tata Motors plans to launch gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines. This category of engines operates by injecting fuel directly into the combustion chamber, thus providing significantly improved fuel efficiency.

Tata Punch.ev has been judiciously priced, has adequate features and also a futuristic look, and all of these could help it pip the Tata Nexon EV and take the Punch to the top position in India’s EV sales.
