Kia Clavis EV will be ideal for city driving

Kia is gearing up to bring in the Clavis electric vehicle (EV) to India during the second half of next year but it would be ideal for city driving.

Similar to its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the Kia Clavis is set to redefine urban mobility.

Kia Clavis EV could be priced around
Rs 13 lakh or Rs 1.3 million.

Recently, there have been spy shots of the Kia Clavis in circulation, showcasing both its ICE and EV models, which look similar.

It has been spotted testing in South Korea and it is likely that Kia will have a dual-launch strategy for the Clavis EV.

The EV version of the Kia Clavis will share the same snazzy design as its ICE sibling — and these include the vertically-stacked headlamps, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), sleek roof rails and a sculpted bonnet.

Notwithstanding their similar appearances, there is likely to be subtle differences between the ICE and EV versions, to make them stand apart.

These could be like EV-specific badges and potentially-unique front and rear design elements.

There could be colour variations and differentiated interior themes in the EV model to distinguish it from the ICE variant.

Kia Clavis EV features

The Kia Clavis is expected to be feature-rich even in the lower variants. The Clavis could have a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors and ventilated seats.

The Clavis could also come with Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), giving a fillip to safety and driving ease.

Electric specifications of the Kia Clavis

Even though the company has remained mum about the specifics of the EV’s battery pack and powertrain, it could be that it will borrow elements from the Hyundai Casper EV.

This could mean an estimated range of about 300-350 km, and would be perfect for city driving but not for travelling inter-city.

Kia is also set to introduce a cutting-edge regenerative braking system and a hi-tech fast-charging solution so that its customers have minimum downtime.

Competition in India — Kia Clavis EV vs Tata Punch.ev

In India, the Clavis EV will slug it out with the Tata Punch.ev, which is available in both standard and long-range versions.

The Punch’s standard model comes with a range of 315 km, while its long-range version offers 421 km range on a single charge, setting a high benchmark for Kia to zoom ahead.

EV2, EV3, EV4, and EV5 concepts

In the year 2023, a concept of the Kia EV2 was showcased. It was known that the EV2, along with other concepts like the EV3, EV4, and EV5, will be based on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform.

The company has not officially revealed any details about the EV2’s and other concepts’ technical details.

Currently, there are no reported details about the size of the battery pack or its range of this EV2 SUV.

However, it may be launched in 2025. Other models like the EV3, EV4, and EV5 could also hit the road in India around 2025-26.

E-Vroooom’s views

Although the Clavis EV would be ideal for city driving in India, the other electric cars that Kia is bringing to the country would offer a litany of options for car buffs.
