Xiaomi has just unveiled its second electric vehicle (EV), the SU7 Ultra, at the Xiaomi 15 event in China.
This follows the introduction of the standard SU7 model. The Ultra version is expected to offer premium performance and innovative technology.
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra EV could be priced around yuan 800,000 or Rs 95 lakh. |
Pre-orders are already open in China, and the SU7 Ultra is set to impress EV buffs with its exceptional speed and advanced engineering.
Competing in the luxury segment
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is positioned as a luxury electric vehicle, taking on established competitors like the Tesla Model S Plaid.
While Xiaomi has not confirmed the official price, industry insiders predict it could be around yuan 800,000 (approximately Rs 95 lakh).
This places it well above the standard SU7, which starts at yuan 215,900 (around Rs 25 lakh).
The production version of the SU7 Ultra is expected to maintain most of the specifications revealed in its prototype earlier this year.
However, the final model will use more cost-effective materials instead of the carbon fibre body seen in the prototype, helping to keep the price somewhat manageable.
Powerful performance
The SU7 Ultra features an impressive triple HyperEngine motor set up, consisting of two V8 motors and one V6 motor.
This configuration, strategically positioned across the front and rear wheels, generates a whopping 1,548 horsepower and 635 Nm of torque.
Xiaomi claims the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km an hour in just 1.97 seconds, making it one of the fastest electric car accelerations.
It can reach 200 km an hour in 5.96 seconds and 300 km an hour in just 15.07 seconds, with a top speed of over 350 km an hour.
To ensure stability at these high speeds, the SU7 Ultra provides a maximum downforce of 2,145 kg.
This focus on high-performance capabilities indicates that Xiaomi is seeking a strong presence in the luxury EV market.
Advanced battery technology
A standout feature of the SU7 Ultra is its Qilin II battery pack, developed by CATL.
This 150 kWh battery uses cell-to-body (CTB) technology, allowing it to be integrated directly into the vehicle’s structure. This innovation improves weight distribution and overall stability.
The battery can achieve a peak output of 1,330 kW and maintain 800 kW output even at 20 per cent charge.
Moreover, the SU7 Ultra supports a rapid charging capability, allowing the battery to charge fully in under 12 minutes.
Limited availability of SU7 EV Ultra
While the standard SU7 was showcased in India, Xiaomi is yet to introduce it to the market there, and the same might apply to the SU7 Ultra, which may see limited availability.
Currently, Xiaomi seems focused on the Chinese market, with no confirmed plans for expanding its EV line up to India.
Alongside the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi will also unveil its new Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro smartphones, although only the standard Xiaomi 15 is expected to roll out in India.
As Xiaomi expands its EV offerings, all eyes will be on the SU7 Ultra to see if it can compete with established electric brands.
E-Vroooom’s views
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra promises to deliver high-end performance, advanced technology, and impressive speed.
With its powerful drivetrain and innovative battery, it aims to make a mark in the premium EV segment.
However, Xiaomi’s second EV the SU7 Ultra’s availability may be limited to China for now, leaving many eager customers outside the country waiting to see how the high-performance electric car’s journey unfolds.
