Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has expanded in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market with two new offerings — the BE 6e and the XEV 9e — and they can compete well with the Tata Curvv and MG ZS EVs, considering the former’s pricing, features, design and range.
These vehicles will be launched in India in 2025 and are built on the company’s new electric-only INGLO platform.
The BE 6e targets a younger, sportier demographic and the XEV 9e appeals to families looking for a more traditional SUV design.
Mahindra BE 6e | A sporty, modern EV
The Mahindra BE 6e is designed to attract younger drivers with its bold, sporty look.
This vehicle features a more dynamic design compared to typical SUVs, offering sleek lines and an overall energetic appearance.
The BE 6e is equipped with a dual 12.3-inch screen setup, providing a modern and intuitive user interface for drivers and passengers alike.
In terms of performance, the BE 6e offers a rear-wheel drive experience powered by a choice of two battery variants — a 59 kWh battery and a larger 79 kWh battery.
These battery options allow the BE 6e to produce between 228 and 282 horsepower.
The car can also fast charge using a 175 kW DC charger, allowing the battery to go from 20 per cent to 80 per cent charge in just 20 minutes.
The BE 6e also offers an impressive ARAI-certified range of 682 km on a single charge, making it a highly practical option for long-distance driving.
Mahindra XEV 9e | A family-friendly electric SUV
The XEV 9e, on the other hand, is more suited for families looking for a comfortable and spacious SUV.
While it shares the same INGLO platform as the BE 6e, the XEV 9e has a more conventional SUV design, focusing on comfort and safety.
The XEV 9e comes with a three-screen system, similar in size to the BE 6e’s display, ensuring that both the driver and passengers have access to ample information and entertainment during their ride.
Like the BE 6e, the XEV 9e offers both 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery options, delivering 228 to 282 horsepower.
This vehicle also supports fast charging, with the ability to recharge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in just 20 minutes using the 175 kW DC charger.
The XEV 9e boasts of a similar ARAI-certified range of 682 km, offering a strong combination of range and power for long journeys.
Features and safety of M&M new EVs
Both the BE 6e and XEV 9e come packed with features aimed at enhancing the driving experience.
They both feature Mahindra’s Adrenox software, a 360-degree camera, and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) for added safety and convenience.
A panoramic glass roof adds a touch of luxury to both the models, making the interior feel more open and airy.
Safety is a key concern for Mahindra, and both vehicles feature reinforced frontal structures and a protective cage-like design around the passenger cabin, made from boron steel.
The cars also come equipped with seven airbags, further enhancing their safety credentials.
Pricing and competition of BE 6e, XEV 9e
Pricing of the BE 6e starts at around Rs 18 lakh (Rs 1.8 million), making it a competitive option in the electric car market.
The XEV 9e, which is larger and more SUV-like in design, is priced around Rs 21 lakh (Rs 2.1 million).
These two cars have exciting features and are also priced at par with other electric vehicles in India, such as the Tata Curvv (prices start from Rs 17.5 lakh or Rs 1.75 million) and the MG ZS EVs (prices start from Rs 19 lakh or Rs 1.9 million).
The Tata Curvv EV, with its modern design and features, is also aimed at the younger, tech-savvy audience. It will likely compete with the BE 6e in terms of design and features.
On the other hand, the MG ZS EV is a popular family SUV with solid performance and a good range, positioning itself as a competitor to the XEV 9e.
The Tata Curvv and MG ZS EVs have already carved out strong presence in the Indian market, with established brand recognition and a loyal customer base.
E-Vroooom’s views
Mahindra’s growth in the Indian electric vehicle market with two new EVs, the BE 6e and XEV 9e, would be a game changer compared to Tata Curvv and MG ZS EVs as the pricing is judicious and the new electric cars are also likely to deliver on their promise of performance, range and features.
