The Cyberster is just the beginning, as MG plans to introduce four luxury cars in India over the next two years.
A stunning two-door sports car
The MG Cyberster is designed to turn heads with its sleek, two-door sports car look.
Emphasising a sporty aesthetic, this roadster will appeal to those looking for a high-performance vehicle with a modern twist.
The luxury electric car features advanced specifications and design elements typically seen in cars priced over Rs 1 crore (Rs 10 million), but at a more affordable price point.
MG Motor’s focus on affordable luxury
A top MG executive emphasised that the company is focused on bringing “accessible luxury” to Indian consumers.
The Cyberster will be feature packed and well rounded, providing great value at competitive prices.
New MG Select showrooms to enhance customer experience
To complement the launch of luxury cars, MG Motor will also introduce MG Select showrooms in 12 cities.
These premium showrooms will be separate from MG’s mass-market dealerships, ensuring a more exclusive experience for customers.
The first MG Select showrooms are expected to open by the first quarter of 2025. Additionally, the company has received strong interest from over 350 potential dealers looking to expand the brand into other cities.
Growing demand for luxury cars in India
The luxury car segment in India has seen significant growth, with approximately 45,000 units sold in 2023, marking a 20 per cent year-on-year growth.
While the segment currently represents only 1 per cent of the total car sales in India, there is potential for it to grow further due to factors like the rise in disposable income and the increasing number of ultra-high-net-worth individuals.
A competitive edge in the luxury market
The Indian luxury car market is currently dominated by legacy brands like Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
However, MG Motor is ready to challenge this dominance with the Cyberster and its focus on offering new, distinct experiences.
The new-age Indian consumer is looking for fresh, innovative products, and MG Motor aims to meet these expectations with its futuristic electric vehicles (EVs).
Introducing Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) for Cyberster
MG is introducing the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model for the Cyberster as well, making it the first luxury car in India to offer this service.
Under this model, customers can purchase the car and pay a battery usage fee based on per-kilometre usage.
This flexible pricing scheme is a more economical way to own an electric vehicle.
E-Vroooom’s views
The combination of affordable pricing, advanced technology, and exclusive showroom experience will make MG a strong player in the growing Indian luxury car market as well as the evolving EV space.
With the launch of the Cyberster and considering its innovative features, JSW MG Motor India is setting the stage for a new era of luxury electric cars in the country that will be dubbed as “accessible luxury” or, in other words, affordable luxury.
