The Hyundai Creta electric vehicle (EV) is set to be launched on January 17, 2025, at the Bharat Mobility Show but will it become popular like its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart?
This much-anticipated Creta electric SUV will be one of the key attractions at the Hyundai stall, alongside the Ioniq 9 EV.
The Hyundai Creta EV will feature a closed grille and alloy wheels to distinguish it from its ICE model. |
The Creta EV’s deliveries are scheduled to start from February 2025.
Key features of the Hyundai Creta EV
Interior design and features
The Creta EV will feature many interior elements from the Hyundai Alcazar, providing a tech-forward and premium feel.
Inside, the Hyundai car will come with a three-spoke steering wheel and a drive selector near the steering column.
There will be a restyled centre console with two cup holders and buttons for functions like electronic parking brake, cooled seats, auto-hold, and 360-degree camera.
The HVAC or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning controls will be similar to those in the Alcazar facelift.
Powertrain and performance
The Creta EV may feature a 138 hp motor, delivering about 255Nm of torque.
This set up will provide smooth and responsive performance, similar to the Hyundai Kona EV’s powertrain (currently not available in India).
The SUV will be equipped with a 45kWh battery pack, slightly smaller than some rivals like the MG ZS EV (50.3kWh), but on a par with the entry-level Tata Curvv EV.
This battery size should provide a reasonable driving range for most users (around 400 km hopefully).
The Creta EV will feature a front-axle-mounted motor, offering efficiency and smooth power delivery.
Infotainment and technology
The Creta EV is set to retain the twin-screen set up for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, with an updated interface to support EV-specific features.
Hyundai will also retain some physical controls for easier operation, such as buttons for climate control and media.
This balance of modern digital tech with familiar physical controls will appeal to Indian buyers looking for a user-friendly experience.
Design and exterior changes
The Creta EV will share most of its design features with the standard petrol-powered Creta, but with some key updates.
It will feature a closed grille, updated bumpers, and new alloy wheels to differentiate it as an electric vehicle.
These subtle changes will ensure that the Creta EV maintains the bold and stylish look that has led to the petrol version becoming so popular.
Competitors and market position
The Hyundai Creta EV will face stiff competition from other electric SUVs, including the Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and Maruti’s upcoming e-Vitara.
These rivals will offer different designs, features, and price points, giving Indian consumers various options to choose from.
While the Creta EV may not be the largest in terms of battery size, its brand reputation, interior features, and overall value could give it a competitive edge.
Will Creta EV be as popular as the petrol version?
The regular Hyundai Creta has been one of India’s top-selling SUVs for years, and the electric variant has the potential to match its success.
The Creta’s popularity stems from its stylish design, spacious interiors, and strong features, all at competitive pricing.
If Hyundai can bring these qualities to the Creta EV, it stands a good chance of attracting both current Creta fans and new EV buyers.
Also, the electric vehicle space in India should see traction for it to spark a sales surge of the Creta EV.
However, several factors will influence the Creta EV’s success in India, including its pricing, driving range, charging infrastructure, and consumer awareness.
Hyundai’s competitive pricing strategy will be crucial, especially as competition offers similar features at attractive price points.
Additionally, the expansion scenario of EV charging infrastructure across India will play a key role in making the Creta EV a viable option for more buyers.

E-Vroooom’s views
The Hyundai Creta EV has the potential to become a popular electric SUV in India but may fall well short of its ICE version (in sales) as electric vehicles still lack awareness among the people but if options such as Battery-as-a-Service are provided, it may make the Hyundai EV competitive in pricing and it could soon become India’s top selling EV (considering the inclination for SUVs among car buyers).
